2.0.6.0

minor

Version 2.0.6.0 adds a live domain age check: links and senders on a newly registered domain - one registered within the last 30 days - are flagged.

What changed

  • Live lookup of a domain's registration date against the public registry
  • Flags links and senders on domains registered within the last 30 days
  • Scam counter and recent-scams refinements in the popup
  • Sends only the link's bare domain name to the public registry - never your email content

A domain registered last week and a domain registered ten years ago can look identical in an email. The difference between them is one of the strongest signals there is - a newly registered domain is what a throwaway campaign runs on, and it is cheap enough to abandon after a day.

A domain age check is only useful if it is live, though: a list of known-bad domains is out of date the moment a new one is bought. So this release checks the date as the email is open, rather than against a list shipped with the extension. When a link points at a domain - or a message arrives from one - the extension looks up that domain’s registration date against the public registry, sending only the domain name and never your email, and flags anything registered within the last 30 days. This release also sharpens the scam counter and the recent-scams list in the popup.
